JAIPUR: Increasing number of
BJP leaders from the state are joining the chorus against director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s controversial film 'Padmavati'.
The latest to join the debate are state party president Ashok Parnami and higher education minister
Kiran Maheshwari. "Distortion of historical facts will not be allowed," said Parnami while interacting with the media at the state party headquarters on Wednesday.
He said the state government will ensure that the public sentiments and historical facts are not compromised with. "Rajasthan is proud of its history and at distortion of it will not be allowed," said Parnami.
On a post on Twitter and facebook, state higher education minister Kiran Maheshwari said that
Rani Padmini was the symbol of women’s courage and dignity. "Her insult will not be acceptable to anyone. The constitution does not allow hurting the cultural pride by fictional, untrue and misleading ideas," she wrote. Maheshwari has uploaded a poster on the social media which says that presenting fictional characters as historical pride will not be tolerated. The poster also has photos of chief minister
Vasundhara Raje, PM
Narendra Modi and BJP National President Amit Shah.
The protest over the film has picked up a political colour in the state with several politicians questioning the 'distortion' of history by director Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Initially, those from the Rajput community, like cabinet minister Rajendra Rathore, voiced their concern but with other communities supporting Rajput Karni Sena’s demand of a ban on the film and protests across the state, more leaders are now speaking up against the film.
