Toddler run over by neighbour’s SUV in Jaipur; driver held

Jaipur: A one-year-old boy died after being run over by a neighbour’s SUV in Jhotwara area Thursday evening, police said.

The victim, Mohammad Ibrahim (1), son of Mohammad Rizwan, was playing outside his maternal grandparents’ house in Jagannathpuri when the accident occurred around 4.30 pm.

According to police, Rizwan, a daily wage labourer and resident of Jalupura, said his wife had been staying at her parental home with their son and daughter for the past week. Ibrahim was playing outside the house when a neighbour returned from work in a Scorpio SUV.

Investigators said the toddler suddenly ran onto the road and came in front of the vehicle. The driver allegedly failed to notice the child, and the SUV ran over him.

Hearing the commotion, family members rushed out and found Ibrahim critically injured. He was immediately taken to Kanwatia Hospital, where doctors declared him dead after examination.

Police seized the Scorpio SUV and detained the driver. Officials said the driver was arrested under preventive provisions related to breach of peace, while further investigation into the accident is under way.

Following a post-mortem examination at Kanwatia Hospital, the child’s body was handed over to his family.
