Surgery for ‘nutcracker syndrome’ performed at SMS Hospital

Jaipur: Kavita Kumari, a 29-year-old woman from Jhunjhunu, was suffering from constant pain in her abdomen for the past few years. After many tests and types of treatment, she came to Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital and told doctors that despite using medicines for two years, her pain had not subsided. Tests conducted at SMS Hospital revealed that she was suffering from the rare “nutcracker syndrome”, in which some of her arteries had squeezed her left renal (kidney) vein, causing the pain. A senior official of SMS hospital said that the test reports showed that her left renal (kidney) vein was compressed between her abdominal aorta and superior mesenteric artery. The left renal vein carries blood away from the left kidney and back to the heart and its compression in nutcracker syndrome is a major issue. The official said that cardiothoracic and vascular surgeons performed a surgery for it to provide relief to the patient.

Teen undergoes surgery at SMS for rare disorder

Doctors at Sawai Man Singh hospital in Jaipur performed a robotic surgery on an 18-year-old patient with achalasia cardia, a rare swallowing disorder. The patient had been suffering from the condition for two years, experiencing difficulty swallowing food and regurgitating it. The surgery was successful in improving the patient's condition. In a separate case, doctors at the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences in Arunachal Pradesh closed a congenital hole in a 30-year-old patient's heart through surgery performed under local anesthesia.

Western Railway hospital conducts rare heart procedure on 32-year-old woman

The cardiovascular department of Western Railways Jagjivan Ram Hospital in Mumbai successfully performed a rare heart procedure on a 32-year-old woman. The patient had a history of chest pain and heart failure, and it was discovered that her aorta was greatly dilated. A team of specialists conducted a risky and complex procedure, which resulted in the patient's successful recovery and discharge from the hospital. The availability of necessary equipment and timely intervention played a crucial role in saving the patient's life.

2-3% patients affected by dengue shock syndrome

The dengue tally in Ghaziabad has reached 500 this year, with most cases being observed in elderly patients or those with other complications. Only 2% to 3% of patients have experienced dengue shock syndrome or hemorrhage. Private hospitals have been instructed to follow blood transfusion protocols to avoid panic. Most patients are recovering within a week with medication, rest, and a healthy diet. Noida, a neighboring city, has reported 400 dengue cases so far. The health department is awaiting the results of a sero-survey conducted at KGMU, Lucknow.
