JODHPUR: A galaxy of celebrities from the global film industry will descend at the Banqueting Hall of the Palace of Whitehall at London on November 9 in a charity event, Royal Rajasthan Gala', being organised to raise funds for Indian Head Injury Foundation (IHIF), founded by Jodhpur royal Gaj Singh.
The event will be all about the swirl of vibrant colours, the delightfully pungent aromas, the seductive sounds of the sitar, exotic performances of talented artists from Bollywood and palate tingling culinary tastes, all of which will be evocative of the majestic state of Rajasthan.
The event will have a significant contribution of superstar Amitabh Bachchan as a member of the committee of honour. Appreciating the participation of Big B, Singh's wife Hemlata Raje said, "I am so touched that personality like him has been able to take time out of his busy schedule for this noble cause. I am impressed by his deep sense of commitment towards the people of his country."
International celebrities like Sigourney Weaver, Huge Grant, Bryan Adams, Sarah Jassica Parker, David Campbell, Sabrina Guinness, Upasna Kamineni, Linda Heathcoat-Amory, Trinny Woodall and Patrick Guerrant-Hermes are also the members of the committee while actor Kabir Bedi has also joined the galaxy.
Ashish Kapuriya of the foundation said that Singh will be the general chairman of the event while Prathap C Reddy of Apollo Hospital will be the honorary chairman. The event will be co-chaired by celebrities like Suhel Seth, Elizabeth Hurley, Arun Nayyar, Suneeta Reddy, Sir John David, Dr Jamshid Ghajar, president of Brain Trauma Foundation, New York, Elizabeth van Merkensteijn, Hermione Crosfield OBE, Amin Jaffer, Vinod Tailor and Raymond Bickson, MD of Taj Hotels.
The IHIF, in partnership with the Apollo Hospital and Brain Trauma Foundation, is furthering the mission of saving and improving the lives of head injured patients. Singh founded it in February 2007 after his son Shivraj sustained a fatal brain injury following an accident while playing polo in Jaipur in February 2005.
This is the first ever fund-raising event by the foundation. Singh said, "I have a personal interest in head injury treatment and have developed a strong commitment to my countrymen, who are not as fortunate as some of us. This motivated me to set up IHIF, the mission of which is to build a comprehensive system in India for the prevention and treatment of brain trauma in order to improve outcomes and provide rehabilitation."
