Rohit Godara gang shooter, key arms supplier arrested in Punjab
Jaipur: Sriganganagar police Tuesday arrested an alleged shooter and a key weapons supplier linked to the Rohit Godara gang, deepening an investigation that has already uncovered a network allegedly involved in supplying firearms to gang operatives across Rajasthan.
Police identified the accused as Harmanpreet, 27, a resident of Ghodewaha village in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur district, and Rohit Sahota, 21, a resident of Amritsar. Investigators said both were arrested in Punjab and are wanted in separate firing cases. Harmanpreet is suspected of being involved in gang-linked shooting operations, while Sahota allegedly played a role in arranging and supplying weapons.
The arrests stem from a March 18 operation in which police arrested Gurjit Singh Gill, 23, in Sriganganagar and recovered a pistol, a magazine and four additional magazines from his possession. The case was later transferred to a senior inspector station for detailed investigation due to its alleged links with organised crime.
During the probe, police arrested Rahul Nagpal alias Romi, 30, and Lavjot Singh alias Jot Brar, 23. Interrogation of Nagpal allegedly revealed his association with the Rohit Godara gang and his role in supplying weapons to its members.
Investigators further found that a pistol and Rs 1 lakh cash were allegedly provided to Nagpal by Hanuman Swami, brother of gangster Rohit Godara, on the latter’s instructions. Hanuman Swami, 42, a resident of Kapurisar village in Bikaner district, was arrested on May 29.
Officials said the latest arrests are part of efforts to dismantle the gang’s arms procurement and distribution network, where weapons are supplied from one person to another. Police said Harmanpreet and Sahota are being interrogated to identify other suppliers, shooters and facilitators connected to the network. Investigators are also examining possible links with recent firing incidents and extortion cases attributed to the gang.
The operation was carried out by Sriganganagar police’s District Special Team.
