JAIPUR: A Road Safety Cell will be formed to take preventive steps against road mishaps in the city. The cell will be empowered to take suitable measures to eliminate chances of mishaps at accident-prone areas and attend to complaints regarding road condition. It will be having representatives from transport department, traffic police, PWD, JDA and JMC.
The transport department will be the nodal agency of this cell which will monitor its functioning. Drunken driving, jumping traffic signals, overspeeding and using mobile while driving by two-wheelers will not only be challaned, but will be booked by the police.
The decision was taken at a meeting convened by principal secretary, home, S N Thanvi in connection with the road safety week to be observed from January 1 to 7. Thanvi suggested many measures like ensuring strict enforcement of rules before issuing driving license, compliance of safety rules, grading of the drivers, and taking joint efforts to make Jaipur-Kishangarh stretch of the national highway accident free. He also suggested that only license holders be sold vehicles to prevent unlicensed driving.
Additional director general of police (ADG), traffic, R S Dhillon stressed on the need for strict compliance of speed limit by two-wheelers and carrying not more than two persons. Transport commissioner J C Mohanty elaborated on the programmes to be organised during the week-long road safety week.
