Rajasthan BJP's focus on organisational polls
JAIPUR: With the polls to select the leaders at the block levels currently being held, the state unit of BJP is looking forward to an organisational revamp over the next one and a half month.
While much focus has been laid on the change in the booth, block and district level, sources within the party admit that not much is likely to change in terms of party leadership in the organisation.
1x1 polls
State BJP president Ashok Parnami is expected to retain his post during the poll for the president, scheduled for November 20, 2015.
Despite the provisions for organizational polls every three years, internal polls are being held after a span of 5 years at the state unit of BJP in Rajasthan. The last internal polls for the state unit were held in 2010, when now a cabinet minister Arun Chaturvedi was elected as the president of Rajasthan BJP. He was unceremoniously replaced by Vasundhara Raje ahead of the 2013 assembly poll; which led to the state unit witnessing its best performance ever under her leadership.
Post 2013 assembly polls and prior to the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Parnami was nominated as the state president. Over the past six months, former Jaipur mayor Parnami, known as a Raje loyalist, has earned a reputation of being more of a `spokesperson’; with the frequent press conferences he addressed in support of the chief minister. His proximity to Raje and his cordial relations with the RSS leaders makes him the most ideally suited for the post, claim party sources.
The party’s organisation elections would be held in state in four phases. While the polls have already been held at the booth level, the ones at block levels would be completed by October 10 and at the district level by October 30. Shyam Sundar Sharma has been appointed the party’s state election in-charge.
