Rahul Chaudhary elected RUTA president
Jaipur: Assistant professor of political science department (Rajasthan University) Rahul Chaudhary was elected president of Rajasthan University Teachers’ Association (
Chaudhary defeated his nearest rival G P Singh by 36 votes. Chaudhary polled 160 votes, while Singh bagged 126. Out of 518 voters, 496 exercised their franchise.
One of the major highlights of election was promises made by the candidates. The elections were contested by different groups or associations within the university. One group of candidates promised to let the government allot land for the faculty members of the university like they did for journalists.
Almost all the groups promised to open crèche facility for the women teachers in the campus and a separate room in the central library for the faculty members.
One group said they will raise the demand to declare Rajasthan University as a Central University and renovation/ repair work of the faculty quarters allotted in the university campus.
Though these promises are looking very appealing many people within the university have questioned these superficial promises.
Sudhir Raniwala, professor in physics department, in a mail to the university teachers questioned the association’s silence when things are going downhill. “I have not really seen either the RUTA executive or any of the other candidates speak up in the interest of the university in times of real turmoil in the last five years or so.”
Many teachers said that university is known for its research and when the level of research already going down, these teachers are focused on their selfish objectives many of which cannot be fulfilled.
