JAIPUR: The Jaipur police on Thursday arrested three members of a family, including an elderly couple on charges of killing their 25-year-old son during a fight over a bitter property feud on Wednesday in Vaishali Nagar.

ACP (Vaishali Nagar) Alok Kumar Saini told TOI that the police arrested Nawab Khan (55), his wife Jaitoon Khan (50), and son Amjad Khan (25) for their alleged role in the murder of their son Sameer alias Ashraf.

“There are a total of 11 accused in the FIR registered after the crime. Three persons have been arrested and an investigation is underway to examine the role of other suspects,” Saini added.

The victim was an auto-driver and had a quarrel with him on Wednesday morning in their house in Major Bane Singh Colony near Khatipura. Other family members and relatives also got entangled as the fight escalated.

During the violent confrontation, someone stabbed the victim with a long knife, leaving him writhing in pain in a pool of blood. Some suspects fled from the secne, fearing police action.

The subsequent investigation revealed that the fight arose out of a feud the two sides had over a house. Saini said that the house is owned by the victim’s grandfather, Ali Bakhsh. He had handed over the house to his son, Nawab, but changed his mind and decided to give it to his other sons and grandsons. This set off a bitter dispute among family members over the possession of the house.

The two sides of the family have filed nearly six FIRs against each other, along with numerous complaints sent to the Vaishali Nagar police station. The victim lived with his wife and two children in a small room in the same house. About six months ago he had asked his father, Nawab, to give him more space in the house, which sparked a dispute between father and son. While the victim’s brothers joined their father in the dispute, Sameer joined his uncle’s group to oppose his father.

Police said that they were also examining the property documents of the house.
