Nitin Nabin signals tighter central oversight in maiden Raj visit
Jaipur: BJP national president Nitin Nabin’s maiden visit to Rajasthan after taking charge sent a clear internal signal—tighten the organisation, improve coordination and keep a closer watch on both party functioning and governance.
Arriving after a hectic campaign in West Bengal, Nabin began his Monday tour in Tonk, inaugurating the BJP’s district office—seen as a symbolic move in a politically significant region. He also virtually launched offices in Bundi, Pratapgarh, Dungarpur, Churu, Pali and Barmer, signalling a push to strengthen the party’s grassroots structure and connect with workers across districts.
The key takeaway, however, emerged during a closed-door meeting in Jaipur with senior leaders, morcha heads and the core committee. Attendees said Nabin’s message was blunt—maintain unity and focus on strengthening the organisation down to the booth level.
Significantly, he went beyond organisational matters to review governance. “He wanted updates on welfare schemes, recent incidents, summer preparedness in view of the heatwave and readiness for upcoming local body elections,” a leader present in the meeting said. For many, this indicated closer monitoring by the central leadership of the Bhajan Lal Sharma govt.
Nabin also made efforts to build rapport with the state unit, engaging directly with leaders as he works to establish his footing in Rajasthan politics.
However, the visit remained largely inward-looking. There was no public outreach through the party’s “Prabudh Manch Samvad” format, typically used to engage intellectuals and civil society, keeping interactions confined within party ranks.
Some leaders also privately described the turnout in Tonk and during the Jaipur roadshow as underwhelming, falling short of expectations for a national president’s first visit.
Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma accompanied Nabin throughout, reflecting coordination between the govt and party leadership. Senior figures, including Vasundhara Raje, Satish Poonia and Rajendra Rathore, attended the core committee meeting, underscoring its importance.
Despite pressing public concerns such as an intense heatwave and falling reservoir levels, the visit remained focused on internal consolidation and organisational messaging.
