Nagaur natives shared vital Army info with Pak official: Delhi police

Jaipur: Two natives of Nagaur - Maulana Ramzan Khan and Subhash Jangid - arrested by the Delhi police crime branch on Thursday in an alleged espionage racket had reportedly passed confidential information to Pakistan immigration officers (PIO) during their earlier visits to Delhi.
The two are believed to be close friends and owned shops in the main market of Nagaur.According to Delhi’s crime branch officials, Ramzan is a permanent resident of Manak ki Dhani, Barmer, Rajasthan. “He is a school dropout. He came to Nagaur over two decades ago and started running a cut piece cloth shop in the local market of Nagaur. Simultaneously, he started working as an Islamic preacher in a local mosque ‘Qureshiyon ki Masjid’ in Nagaur,” said a senior officer of Delhi police crime branch over phone from New Delhi.
According to police, about 18 months back, he had come in contact with Shoaib, a resident of Jodhpur, who was involved in anti-national activities.
“It was Shoaib who lured him into gathering vital information about Army installations and paramilitary forces in Gujarat and Rajasthan as he was a resident of the border area and familiar with local residents and topography. He along with Shoaib met the Pakistan immigration officer (PIO) Mehmood Akhtar alias Mehboob Rajput who was working in the visa section of the Pakistan High Commission,” said an officer.
The other accused Subhash (35) is a native of Inana village in Nagaur, the officer said.
“He studied up to Class IX and is married. About 40 years back, his father came to Nagaur city, where he served as a physical training instructor (PTI) in a government school. Since last year, Subhash is running a grocery shop, where he came into contact with Ramzan who had the neighbouring shop. Subhash was in heavy debt. Ramzan was aware of his financial condition and sensing a soft prey, he lured Subhash into anti-national activities and spying,” said Ravindra Yadav, joint commissioner of police, Delhi (crime branch).
“Ramzan had presented him to the PIO as a paramilitary officer so that they could make more money from the PIO. He had come to Delhi with Ramzan 2-3 times and passed vital information regarding Army and paramilitary installations to the PIO,” he added.
