JAIPUR: In a major relief to chief secretary O P Meena, the
Rajasthan High Court on Thursday dismissed an appeal petition filed by his estranged wife
Geeta Singh Deo
seeking financial support for their daughter's study in the UK.

Geeta had approached the high court after her petition was turned down by lower courts. She had sought 700 pounds per month from Meena for the education of their daughter Geetanjali.
She is now pursuing a second post-graduate degree from
Cardiff University
after her post-graduation from
Nottingham University
.
The single bench of Justice
Prashant Agarwal
said that Geetanjali was more than 30 years old and does not become automatically eligible for financial support from her father. She could earn to support her studies as she was continuing her studies in the UK against the wishes of her father. Geeta alleged that her husband, who has a monthly salary of Rs 1.96 lakh, was not supporting the study of their daughter and she had to bear all her education expenses. This was beyond her finan cial capability.
But O P Meena argued that his daughter had gone to UK without his permission and consent. She had already completed one post-graduate course and was doing another with seemingly no plans to return.
Meena had said that he was ready to contribute for the marriage of his daughter but had no obligation to support a study for such a long period in a foreign country without his permission.
