Zakia Inam

died of coronavirus at the Rajasthan University of Health Sciences(RUHS), Jaipur in the wee hours of Tuesday.


She had been ill for the past several days. On Monday evening, her health deteriorated and was admitted to the RUHS.

Zakia, a three-time MLA from Tonk and a two-time minister, was a resident of Raipur.

Congress leaders, including CM Ashok Gehlot, have expressed their grief over her demise.


"My heartfelt condolences at the passing away of Congress leader and former minister Zakia Inam Ji. May the Almighty give strength to her family members to bear this loss. May her soul rest in peace" tweeted chief minister Ashok Gehlot.

She had handled medical and health and women and child development ministries. She was elected to the assembly from Tonk in 1985, 1998 and 2008. Zakia Inam, however, had suffered a crushing defeat in the 2013 election.
