Green Building Council

introduced green rating systems for existing cities and affordable housing and interior design projects. The rating systems aim to provide designers, builders and architects guidelines to apply green concepts in built areas and achieve measurable, positive environmental impacts.

The

IGBC

Green Cities rating system will create guidelines for existing and brownfield cities identified for the centre’s Smart and AMRUT cities programme. “Greening existing cities can reduce peak power demand by 10-12%, lighting consumption by 25-30%, and water consumption by 15-20%,”a statement from the agency said.

The

IGBC Green Affordable Housing

rating system is the first-of-its-kind rating system to address sustainability and promote higher living standards for occupants across all strata of society. “The Green Affordable Housing rating is applicable for housing projects designed with carpet-area less than or equal to 60 sq meter per dwelling unit, which constitute at least 70% of the total project built up area throughout India,” the release said.
