JAIPUR: Rajasthan speaker Dipendra Singh Shekawat said the housing problems of the newly-elected MLAs would be attended to on a priority basis.
Some of the elected members have expressed their anguish over the delay in allotment of houses causing problems for their stay in the state capital.
While the re-elected MLAs are well-ensconced in their houses the problem is faced by the newly-elected members.
In the 13th assembly about 108 MLAs are first timers and are seeking accommodation here.
Congress MLA Param Navdeep Singh has publicly criticized the delay in house allotment for MLAs who come from distant places.
Chairman of the housing committee Manglaram Godhara said, "the committee has decided to allot houses to the political parties according to their strength in the assembly."
The committee took this decision to avoid any controversy over the preference of some MLAs for some particular houses. It is now for the speaker and the leader of the respective political parties to act on the matter, he added.
He said the committee has informed its decision to the speaker and now its for the speaker to implement the decision. He said party leaders would decide on the house which has to be allotted to any member of that party.
The speaker said the MLAs would get accommodation shortly. "In a day or two the allotment of houses will be made." The delay was because the assembly was in session then and the assembly secretariat busy. Now with the assembly in recess the process would be expedited, he added.
