HOD, prof arrested for accepting bribe in Tonk
Bhilwara: The anti-corruption bureau (ACB) conducted a trap operation Friday and arrested two staff members of Dr Kedar Narayan Modi University in Tonk district while they were allegedly accepting a Rs 20,000 bribe. The action followed a complaint regarding an alleged bribery racket operating in the institution. The arrested accused were identified as BEd department HOD Meenu Gangwal and professor Ramesh Meena. According to the ACB, the duo allegedly demanded money from a student in exchange for allowing him to appear in examinations.Tonk ACB ASP Rishiraj Meena said the complainant alleged he was being prevented from appearing in exams due to prolonged absence and was asked to pay Rs 20,000 to settle the matter. After verifying the complaint, the ACB laid a trap and caught both accused red-handed while accepting the bribe. The ACB also identified another female student who was allegedly being similarly barred from appearing in examinations. During the operation, officials seized registers and other documents from the university for further investigation.A case has been registered and the ACB has started probing whether more students were similarly extorted by university staff. tnn
