Govt working on priority to promote Ayurveda: CM

Jaipur: Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma Monday said the state govt was working on priority for promotion of Ayurveda and its widespread use among the masses. Addressing the gathering at the Golden Jubilee celebration of the National Institute of Ayurveda (NIA), he said Ayurveda and Yoga played a major role in making the country Vishwaguru. "Along with the Vedas, our sages have understood human life through Ayurveda. Great physicians like Charak, Sushrut, Vagbhatt gave systematic form to this knowledge," he said. He said Charak Samhita stated that a healthy body was the first means of dharma, and that the whole world today recognises Sushrut as the father of surgery.He said the NIA, which started as a college in 1976, developed into one of the country's premier deemed-to-be Ayurveda universities. He said the prestige and national leadership that the institute established here in 50 years is inspiring. The CM added that the NIA established leadership over the last five decades on all four pillars of education, training, research and patient care.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's dream is ‘Treatment in India and Treatment by India', said Sharma. He said a separate AYUSH Ministry was established, infusing energy into traditional medicine systems such as Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy. He said the Prime Minister was instrumental in June 21 being declared as International Yoga Day at the United Nations, which gave recognition not only to Yoga but to the entire Indian medical tradition on the world stage. He said investment in Ayurveda research was increased and such institutions were expanded.Sharma said the state govt ensured accessible medical facilities through the establishment of new Ayurveda hospitals, colleges and dispensaries in recent years. He said graduate-postgraduate seats were increased, and modern labs, drug-standardisation units and teaching-pharmacy were strengthened. He assured full cooperation for land allocation for NIA in Jaipur.
