Ghaggar river floods border posts
Jaisalmer: Due to the rising water levels in the Ghaggar River flowing through the Sriganganagar and Hanumangarh regions, water reached the international border area near Anupgarh in Sriganganagar on Saturday. Currently, the water has reached the Majnu post on the India-Pakistan international border.
A major reason for this is that farmers in the area have built three dams near the international border to prevent water from entering their fields, causing the water to accumulate around BSF border posts. The water level at 1 to 2 BOPs is around 1 foot, while behind the border posts, it is approximately 3ft.
The BSF started preparations to deal with this situation and increased vigilance throughout the area, maintaining strict surveillance at the border.
According to official information, the water volume in Ghaggar River in Sriganganagar and Hanumangarh reached 5747 cusecs on Saturday. The river was flowing at 5,000 cusecs for the past few days, with an increase of about 750 cusecs in two days, causing the water to reach the Majnu post on the India-Pakistan border.
SDM Suresh Rao and BSF Commandant Guru Raj visited the border area. They have put all officials and staff, including the local patwari, on alert.
In this joint survey, BSF Commandant Guru Raj informed the district administration team that some farmers have built two dams to prevent Ghaggar water from entering their fields, causing the water to accumulate near BSF posts.
