NEW DELHI: A 42-year-old man died in a Kota hospital on Sunday after setting himself on fire. The deceased identified as Dinesh Meghwal (42) set himself ablaze at his home in Avanli Rojedi village on Saturday.

He suffered 70 per cent burn injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital where he died during treatment, police said.

Police said Meghwal was an alcoholic whose wife and two children had been living at her parents’ home for eight months. He had been asking his wife to return.

“On the day of the incident, he had called her,” police said.

The reason for his action remains unclear.

Police registered a case under section 194 (suicide) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita based on his brother's complaint. The body was returned to the family after a post-mortem examination. The investigation is ongoing.
