Drone drop bid foiled in Sri Ganganagar near border, 12kg heroin seized; 4 held
JAISALMER: Near the international border adjoining Sri Ganganagar, on Sunday, acting on a crucial input from the CID (BI) intelligence agency, the police, in a joint operation with the BSF, foiled a major attempt to smuggle narcotics into Indian territory through a drone dropped from across the Pakistan border.
During the operation, conducted in the border area of Karanpur police station limits, a total of 12 kg 167 grams of heroin—packed in 23 packets of 500 grams each and valued at approximately ₹60 crore in the international market—was recovered from a (farm field).
Four smugglers, who had arrived to take delivery of the consignment, were arrested.
A large-scale search operation is currently underway across the border region in coordination with the BSF.
Sri Ganganagar Superintendent of Police Harishankar Yadav stated that CID (BI) had received inputs about a major heroin consignment being dropped via drone from across the Pakistan border in the Karanpur border area, with local smugglers expected to collect it. Acting on this, Karanpur police, in coordination with the BSF, launched an operation on Sunday.
Joint teams recovered four large packets from a location near village 19 O, which contained a total of 23 smaller packets of 500 grams each, amounting to around 12 kg of heroin.
The estimated international market value of the seized consignment is around ₹60 crore.
The heroin was dropped by a drone from across the Pakistan border.
He further added that CID (BI) had received credible intelligence that smugglers, in contact with Pakistan-based handlers, were planning to drop a heroin consignment near the Indo-Pak border using a drone, estimated to be around 10–12 kg. Based on this information, police immediately intensified surveillance and conducted search operations at suspicious locations.
A joint team of Sri Karanpur Police Station and CID Zone Sri Ganganagar arrested four accused. During the search, a total of 12 kg 167 grams of heroin was recovered from their possession. The international market value of the seized heroin is estimated at ₹60 crore.
The arrested accused have been identified as:
Sandeep Singh alias Buta Singh (26), resident of Village Pakki, PS Raisinghnagar, District Sri Ganganagar
Rajendra Kumar (19), resident of 2 KDP Rawla, District Sri Ganganagar
Balwant Singh (27), resident of Lohara, PS Gajsinghpur, District Sri Ganganagar
Pawan Kumar, resident of Ward No. 1, Gajsinghpur, District Sri Ganganagar
An FIR No. 75/2026 has been registered at Sri Karanpur Police Station under Sections 8/21 of the NDPS Act. Further investigation has been handed over to Police Station New Mandi Gharsana.
The SP added that a comprehensive search operation is ongoing in coordination with the BSF across the border region. He, along with CID (BI) Additional SP Deeksha Kamra, is personally interrogating the accused. As per preliminary investigation, local smugglers acted on instructions from Pakistan-based handlers and received the heroin consignment dropped via drone near the Indo-Pak border.
Police and CID (BI) had maintained strict vigilance and coordination with the BSF. Along with the heroin (12 kg 167 grams), plastic radium sticks and several pieces of yellow tape used in packaging were also recovered. The four accused have been arrested in connection with the case.
He further stated that the heroin was dropped in one go by a large quadcopter drone from across the Pakistan border.
