Dist consumer panel reissues bailable warrants for Salman
Jaipur: The Jaipur District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission–II has again summoned actor Salman Khan through bailable warrants in a contempt petition linked to an alleged misleading pan masala advertisement.A bench comprising Commission President Gyarsi Lal Meena and members Ajay Sharma and Supriya Agrawal Monday issued fresh bailable warrants and directed the Jaipur Police Commissioner to ensure their execution. Khan has been ordered to appear before the commission on Feb 23.
The commission had earlier issued bailable warrants while hearing a contempt application filed by complainant Yogendra Singh. As the warrants were not executed, the commission decided to issue fresh bailable warrants.Earlier in the day, the commission rejected Khan's application seeking cancellation of the bailable warrants. During the hearing, counsels representing Khan and Rajshree Pan Masala argued that the advertisement in question was not related to pan masala but was for "silver-coated elaichi".Counsel for the complainant, Indra Mohan Singh Honey, said the commission imposed an interim ban on misleading advertisements by Khan and Rajshree Pan Masala on Jan 6. "Despite this, large hoardings and advertisements were allegedly displayed on Jan 9 in Jaipur, Kota, and other cities, amounting to contempt of the commission's order," he added. On Jan 15, the district consumer commission initially issued bailable warrants against Khan. Challenging this, the actor filed a revision petition before the State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission. On Feb 6, the state commission directed the district commission not to issue arrest warrants until the bailable warrants were duly executed. The district consumer commission on Monday reissued only bailable warrants against Khan in compliance with that order.
