Despite urbanisation, proposal for new thanas in city pending

Jaipur: A proposal to establish Narayan Vihar police station from the Mansarovar police station, and Tilawala and Acharawala police stations from the Muhana police station has been pending for a long period now.This is despite the rapid urban expansion in areas like Mansarovar and Muhana, where over two dozen new residential projects were launched last year. The police emphasised that the existing jurisdiction boundaries of Mansarovar police station extend near Ajmer Road, whereas the Muhana police station covers a very wide area, making efficient policing a challenge.Officials said that Mansarovar has an annual registration of nearly 1,400 FIRs, while the Muhana police station has around 1,600 cases filed annually. Despite proposing the creation of two new police stations in June 2023, no steps have been taken yet, according to an official who spoke on the condition of anonymity.Police highlighted the rapid development in the Mansarovar area with new apartments, commercial complexes, and PG hostels emerging in the past five years. The existing police station staff are also regularly used for VVIP movements. The official noted that the areas under the jurisdiction of Muhana and Mansarovar police stations have witnessed significant changes in the past decade, transforming barren patches into sprawling residential complexes, necessitating the need for new police stations.The Mansarovar police station operates the Narayan Vihar police chowki (outpost), but there is a shortage of staff, leading to inadequate monitoring. “There is already a small Narayan Vihar chowki which can be used to establish a new police station,” the official said, adding that vast areas are also leading to the problem of patrolling. “There are limited number of police vehicles, and because Mansarovar and Muhana are such large areas that we cannot patrol many of those areas properly,” the official said.In recent times, new police stations such as Malpura Gate, Ramnagariya, and the Airport were established after the police emphasised on the city's growing expansion.
