district,

Rajasthan Police

conducted a massive search operation but the key suspects remain at large.

Bharatpur SP Shyam Singh said police conducted a combing operation in the morning and efforts are underway to track the suspects.

“We have also sought help of Uttar Pradesh police to track down the suspects involved in the firing,” he said.

According to police, a team led by CI Rajesh Pathak of the Kotwali (Deeg) police station entered an isolated area near Eklera village at 9pm after receiving information about the presence of arms smugglers in the area.

Police said the team had gone to arrest one Suresh Thakur, a notorious arms smuggler, after receiving specific information about his presence in the village. The 15-member police team came under heavy attack in pitch dark as accused fired at them, Pathak was injured, and constable Jitendra also sustained a minor injury.

“The inspector and constable are out of danger. The bullet only grazed the head. They were taken to Jaipur’s SMS Hospital for further observation and medical scans” Singh said.

Singh said a large contingent of Bharatpur police is camping in the area, including all senior officials. With the help of Uttar Pradesh police, the teams are checking every nook and cranny for the accused.

Police suspect the accused used countrymade weapons to attack the police team.
