Chennai scrap dealer rescued, 3 abductors held in Bharatpur

JAIPUR: Rajasthan police on Friday rescued a 52-year-old Chennai-based scrap dealer from Bharatpur and arrested three persons, including two women for allegedly abducting the dealer from Jaipur airport and demanding Rs 90 lakh from his ‘safe release.’
Shyam Kumar, was kept captive at a village in Bharatpur’s Kama area, the police teams raided the town and found him inside a house, the cops also arrested abductors, Aashi (35), Sarju (34) and Shakir (37) from the same house.

According to Mukesh Chand, SHO Pahari police station, the accused had posed themselves as Rajasthan based scrap merchants and contacted Shyam Kumar over phone. “Accused invited Shyam Kumar to visit Jaipur to settle the deal, when Kumar landed at Jaipur international airport, the trio took him to Pahari town and began beating him, they also demanded an ransom of Rs 90 lakh,” Chand told TOI over phone, adding that Kumar was abducted on May 3 and on next day the relatives of the of victim deposited Rs 10 each in the bank accounts of the accused.
“We have recovered Rs 10 lakh, remaining Rs 10 lakh is in the bank account of the accused and have been sealed,” Chand told TOI.
While Shyam Kumar’s family kept in touch with the kidnappers, the local police got the whiff of ransom money being deposited into the account of the abductors.
“An informer in Pahari had noticed unusual activities in one of the house in the village. He began recording the details related to the movements of Sarju and Aashi. After it was confirmed that Shyam Kumar was held captive, we raided the house and freed him,” the police official told TOI, adding that Shyam’s statements have been recorded and soon sent to Tamil Nadu.
“Hunt is on to nab other suspects as they too were involved in the kidnapping,” the police official told TOI.
