JAIPUR: A proposal by the state department of tourism has in principle been approved by the Centre to develop infrastructure at

Jaisalmer

to promote border tourism with an investment of Rs 20 crore.

Visitors to the border will get opportunities to see the sacrifices made by the security forces and memories of war victories.

The Tanot Mata temple,

Kishangarh

fort,

Longewala

war memorial and scenic villages amid the vast desert terrains are major tourist attractions but due to lack of infrastructure, tourists don’t spend much time there.

Gayatri Rathore

, principal secretary tourism said, “The border and associated history hold irresistible charm for tourists. Development of the Tanot Mata tourist complex by BSF will ensure safe and comfortable visit while showcasing difficult life of border men. In addition, the sight of the India-Pakistan border in the background of rich historic grandeur will give tourists a memory to cherish for a lifetime.”

Longewala is the border point of India, remembered for valour displayed by Indian forces during the 1971 war. It’s a major attraction for tourists.

The Tanot Mata temple also attracts nearly 3000 devotees every day and many of them also visit Bawlianwala border point after due permission with district administration.

However, there have been only limited facilities available here for the visitors. Now a full-fledged Tanot temple complex with amphitheatre, children activity area, cafeteria and other pubic conveniences has been developed.
