Brother-in-law stabs 30-year-old widow to death in jaipur after she refused his marriage proposal; accused on the run
JAIPUR: A 30-year-old woman was stabbed to death on a street in Shastri Nagar Thursday evening, allegedly by her brother-in-law.
DCP (North) Karan Sharma identified the victim as Poonam Dhanka, a widower who worked as domestic help. "Her husband died a few days ago. She lived with her two children and earned a living by washing dishes," Sharma said.
Additional DCP (North) Bajrang Singh said Dhanka was walking on Nehru Nagar Road when her brother-in-law, Anil Kumar, intercepted her and stabbed her multiple times. Singh said she collapsed on the road, bleeding profusely, and the accused fled.
Bystanders took Dhanka to Kanwatia Hospital, where the doctors declared her brought dead.
As per a preliminary investigation Anil Kumar was pressuring Dhanka to marry him. "The accused had repeatedly forced her to agree to marriage, but she refused on several occasions," Sharma said. He added the two had frequent arguments and that the accused came prepared Thursday to kill her.
Police cordoned off the crime scene and examined the escape route, Singh said. They have received credible information on the suspect's whereabouts and said they would arrest him soon.
'The children have lost both parents now'
Relatives of the woman reached the spot and demanded strict punishment, saying Dhanka's two children had been orphaned.
"Her husband died, and Poonam has been working hard to support her children. The family struggled to survive, and now the children have lost both parents," a police officer said.
