City-based road safety activist Sanjeev Sankhla has been pitching for zigzag barriers and least two speed breakers within a distance of 4 to 6 feet from each other in accident-prone areas.
“The first exercise should be to list out black spots and mishap-prone areas. Second, use technology to reduce over speeding,” said Sankhla.
Traffic warden Sahil Singhal said that lack of parking space is contributing to accidents. “Vehicular density has surpassed the holding capacity of most of the roads in the city. This has forced motorists to park their cars on sidewalks and on every available space. As a result, approaching vehicles often crashed into parked ones. Pedestrians have also been forced to walk on the streets resulting into more mishaps,” said Singhal.

The traffic department has identified some 36 black spots in areas such as B2 bypass, JLN Road, Amer Road and Jaipur-Delhi Highway.
DCP traffic Rahul Prakash said approximately 1,000 challans are issued every six months in Jaipur for speeding. “Efforts are being made to reduce the number of accidents by involving all stakeholders.”
Another survey said that one-third of the victims belong to the age group of 25-35 years, who are usually the bread-winners of their families.
