Alwar murder: Victim's husband cooked up story

JAIPUR: The story of 22-year-old Jitendra Kumar Meena was found to be completely fake. He had not only strangulated his wife to death with the help of a friend, but also staged the scene to confuse the police by claiming that some supporters of a student union leader had gang-raped and then murdered his wife after tying him to a tree.
Police claimed Jitendra suspected his wife of having an extra-marital affair.“He had quit his job as a constable in the Indo-Tibetan Border Police to stay with his wife as he suspected her of having illicit relations,” said a police officer. Jitendra has been arrested, but his friend from Sikar district is on the run.
Jitendra Meena, a resident of Surer village in Rajgarh police station area, had earlier claimed he was on his way to his in-laws’ house with his wife Maruti when the incident took place on Thursday night.
Jitendra says his bike was intercepted by some six to seven supporters of a student union candidate. They allegedly tried to misbehave with his wife and when he protested, they beat him up. Jitendra claims the attackers tied him to a tree and kept thrashing him. They raped his wife. Then he lost consciousness. When he regained consciousness, he saw his wife lying dead.
The post-mortem report suggested the woman had not been raped. “The claims made by Jitendra were found untrue in forensic examination of the spot. For example, there were no marks of jeep tyres near the spot, which contradicted his claim that the rapists had come in the vehicle,” said the officer. The police had registered an FIR against some unidentified men on the basis of Jitendra’s claim.
“We have now arrested him. During interrogation it came up that Jitendra had attempted suicide three years ago because he suspected his wife had relations with other men,” said the officer.
On Thursday night, Jitendra along with a friend – whose name has not been disclosed – took his wife to the nearby forest area and confronted her about her relations with other men.
“They strangulated Maruti and created a fake crime scene to show that she was raped and murdered. The friend beat him up and tied him to a tree. The search is on for the friend,” the officer added.
