Aadhaar scam: Probe finds DoIT staff bypassed safety checks , uploaded docus illegally
Jaipur: A day after arresting three accused, including two employees of the Department of Information Technology (DoIT), in a fake Aadhaar racket in Hanumangarh, police on Tuesday said the accused bypassed mandatory GPS safeguards to upload enrolment data illegally.
Police identified the accused as Dinesh Kumar, 32, a programmer with the Department of Information Technology & Communication in Bhadra; Ramniwas Soni, 35, an assistant programmer in the same department; and Ravi Sheela, 25, a contractual employee of a private firm attached to DoIT.
“The primary probe indicated that Dinesh and Ramniwas used Ravi to access broadband connections at Aadhaar centres in panchayat offices late in the evening when staff left, and uploaded enrolments,” an official said.
Police said all Aadhaar cards generated by the accused are being scrutinised to determine if they were used in criminal activities.
Officials said the arrests stemmed from a joint operation carried out on April 17 with assistance from the Rajasthan ATS. During the raid, teams busted an illegal Aadhaar enrolment centre in Bhadra and arrested the main accused, Kuldeep Sharma, 28, on the spot.
Investigators said Sharma used operator IDs of Jaswant and Aamir Khan to generate Aadhaar cards fraudulently.
Officials said the racket has serious national security implications, as forged identity documents can be used for illegal activities.
Sources said agencies were working on intelligence inputs about fraudulent Aadhaar enrolments in the state.
During the probe, police uncovered a structured setup designed to bypass biometric safeguards.
The accused allegedly used dummy rubber fingerprints to gain unauthorised access to the Aadhaar system and printed retina images to bypass iris verification.
Officials said Sharma also forged signatures on enrolment receipts in the names of authorised operators to conceal the fraud.
Hundreds of enrolment receipts were recovered, indicating the scale of the racket.
Further investigation is under way.
