50-yr-old jailed for life for raping niece

Kota: After a trial for nearly nine months, a POCSO court in Kota on Thursday sentenced a 50-year-old man to life in jail and fined him Rs 30,000 for raping his 9-year-old maternal niece at her house where he was staying as a guest in May 2019.
POCSO court-V in Kota sentenced the man under sections of IPC and POCSO acts, special public prosecutor, POCSO court-V Suresh Verma told on Friday.The convict, who is a government employee in the archaeological department and is the maternal uncle (Mama) of the minor survivor, was staying as a guest at her house in May 2019 following his transfer to Kota from Jaipur, Verma said. The convict, on the night of May 14, 2019, when the survivor’s mother, a government doctor, was on duty, he molested the minor and raped her, he added.
The minor survivor did not speak of the crime due to shame for a couple of days but eventually on May 18, 2019 she narrated her ordeal to her mother who rushed to R.K. Puram police station and lodged a complaint on May 19, 2019. Statements of at least 13 witnesses were recorded during the trial he added.
