4 held for stealing gold jewellery from auto passenger

Jaipur: Four members of an inter-state gang were arrested Thursday for stealing 90 grams of gold jewellery from a passenger travelling in an auto-rickshaw near Chandpole.Deputy commissioner of police, North, Karan Sharma identified the accused as Anjana alias Pankhudi, Alpa Ben Solanki, Sharda alias Pooja and Kangya Arjun. Officers said the four were habitual offenders and were involved in similar thefts in Jaipur earlier.
Sharma said the complainant, Ramniwas Soni, reported at Kotwali police station last month that he was carrying gold jewellery—one necklace and two ear tops weighing around 90 gram—which he collected from his nephew, Vishnu Soni, in Kardhani.He boarded an auto from Doodh Mandi around 4pm for Chandpole. A short distance into the ride, four to five women wearing sarees and salwar suits entered the vehicle. When the auto dropped him near the Hanuman temple at Chandpole and he checked his bag, the jewellery kept inside a separate pouch was missing.Police said the gang worked in coordination. Members boarded autos or e-rickshaws, engaged passengers in conversation and created confusion. During the distraction, they covered bags with a chunni or cloth, quietly opened the chain and removed valuables. After the theft, they got the vehicle stopped and dispersed.Further interrogation is under way to trace other members of the gang and recover stolen items.
