16-yr-old IIT-JEE aspirant from Bihar dies by suicide in Kota

KOTA: A 16-year-old IIT-JEE aspirant from Bihar's Bhagalpur district ended his life in his PG room in Kota's Vigyan Nagar area on Thursday night, making it the fifth suicide by a coaching student in the city this year.

The body was recovered Friday morning when the teen, Abhishek Mandal, did not respond to phone calls from family members. The PG caretaker went to check on him and found him lying unconscious, police said. The boy was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Abhishek had been preparing for JEE in Kota for over a year. However, records from the coaching institute he studied at showed he did not appear for the exam this year, DSP Dharmveer Singh said.

Police are waiting for his parents' arrival to send the body for postmortem examination.
