New border panel members meet to resolve boundary row between Assam, Arunachal

Itanagar: The new members of the regional border dispute committee for Papum Pare district met here on Friday to evaluate the groundwork done by the previous panel and assess the prevailing conditions before formulating strategies for an amicable resolution of the decades-old Assam-Arunachal boundary dispute.The meeting at Yupia near here was attended by land management minister Balo Raja, who is also the chairman of the committee, Doimukh MLA Nabam Vivek, Rajya Sabha member Nabam Rebia, Papum Pare deputy commissioner Jiken Bomjen and SP Taru Gusar.Highlighting the significance of understanding the ground conditions to address border-related challenges, Vivek said, “accurate and up-to-date information is vital for taking informed decisions.”By assessing the ground realities, targeted solutions can be developed that address “area-specific” causes of border issues, he said.He asked the officials to complete the review of the field assessments of border areas by Aug 2024, and also proposed meetings with the Assam counterpart in Sept next year.
