Anti-dam grps protest against NHPC’s 12,500MW Siang project

Itanagar: Several anti-dam groups on Saturday staged a rally at Dite Dime in Siang district to protest against NHPC’s proposed 12,500MW Siang Upper Multipurpose Project.Holding placards and banners, the protesters raised slogans against the govt and NHPC.Members of the All Adi Welfare Society (ASWS), Siang Indigenous Farmer’s Forum (SIFF) and Bango Student Union (BSU) also joined the sit-in. Both the govt and the NHPC are facing stiff opposition from local communities over the proposed dam. On Friday, residents of Parong village in the district lodged a complaint against NHPC and the state govt for issuing a notice for conducting a survey on the sites of the proposed dam. In the letter to Siang SP, the villagers claimed that the survey was “in violation of the sentiments and against the consent of the affected public by the proposed dam”.

Body of man recovered from Hathaikheda dam
