INDORE: A woman slit throat of her one-and-a-half-month-old boy at a Pardhi settlement in Dwarkapuri area on Thursday. The police are yet to ascertain the reason behind the killing of the infant.
The body of baby Priyansh was found in a pool of blood with his throat slit inside the house.
"The infant's mother, Neha, wife of Sunny Solanki, had rushed out to call her sister-in-law, who was washing clothes outside, and cried out that something had happened to the baby. When the sister-in-law entered the house, she found Priyansh dead with a deep wound on his neck," Additional DCP Dishesh Agarwal said.
The matter was immediately reported to family members and neighbours, who gathered at the spot before police were informed. Forensic experts later reached the scene and collected evidence. "The mother has confessed to the killing, and an FIR was registered against her. We are not sure why she killed the baby. She is being interrogated," he added.
According to Dwarkapuri police, the incident took place in Ahirkhedi area at around 2 pm. Dwarkapuri police station in-charge Sushil Patel said that suspicion quickly fell on the mother as bloodstains were found on her hands.
"Relatives also told the police that Neha's mental condition was unstable and that she previously had tried to strangle the baby," said Patel. They said that she often displayed unusual behaviour. The father, Sunny, who works as a street vendor, was away. Police have questioned him too.
