Indore: Lokayukta police arrested women and child development (WCD) empowerment officer while accepting a bribe of Rs 7,000 from the complainant in Neemuch on Monday morning.
The action was taken on basis of a complaint lodged by Raghuveer Banchad, a farmer with the Ujjain lokayukta police. After Banchad's daughter was caught in a flesh trade operation in Neemuch, he had approached WCD officer Ravindra Chouhan, 32, for a counseling report.Chouhan demanded a sum of Rs 50,000 to write the report. The complainant Banchad paid Rs 20,000 as the first instalment of the amount but Chouhan refused to give the report unless he was given the entire amount, said Lokayukta police.
Following this Banchad approached Ujjain Lokayukta and filed a complaint in the matter on April 27.He was asked to bring some proof of the demands made by WCD officer. "The accused took all the necessary steps to avoid being caught. He never spoke about the transactions over phone to make sure his calls were not recorded. He asked all the visitors to deposit their mobile phones outside his office," said Basant Shrivastav, Ujjain Lokayukta.
The complainant was given a camera pen to trap the accused. He went to him and negotiated the amount and Chouhan settled on an extra Rs 7,000 to be given to him for the counseling report. The entire discussion was recorded in the pen camera following which a team of officials were sent to Neemuch to nab the accused while accepting the money.The accused was arrested red-handed and was arrested under relevant sections of the IPC.
