Warm days, cold nights: Indore enters transition phase as winter nears exit
Indore: The city is moving into a warming phase, with day temperature climbing steadily over the next three days, even as a mild dip later could mark the season's final cool spell, said Met officials. The shift brought relief from recent morning chills, yet the large gap between day and night readings continues to trouble many residents. Every day feels like two seasons packed into one. Early mornings are cold enough for woollens, but by lunch it feels like March, said Dr Priya Maheshwari.
On Monday, the maximum temperature reached 30.2 degrees Celsius, two degrees above normal and higher than Sunday's 29.6 degrees Celsius. By 5:30 pm, the city was still warm at 28.8 degrees Celsius. In contrast, the minimum settled at 11.2 degrees Celsius, close to normal, while 8:30 am reading also climbed to 18 degrees Celsius, reflecting a sharp rise through the day. Met scientist Arun Sharma from IMD Bhopal said minimum temperature is likely to rise by two to three degrees over the next three days. "After that, no significant change is expected for at least two days. The pattern suggests we are moving away from cold spell conditions and towards seasonal transition," he said. This winter, Indore has witnessed a pronounced gap between day and night temperature, with only a few days recording a narrower range. While mornings and late nights often remained cold, afternoons turned noticeably warm, making most days feel milder than a typical winter. The pattern created a season of sharp daily contrasts rather than sustained cold conditions.Residents said the wide swing within a single day was difficult to manage. "Mornings still felt cold this season, but afternoons were mostly warm except for a few days," said Rakesh Jain, a businessman."We step out with sweaters and carry them back in our hands. The temperature change leaves me tired by evening. Many colleagues have coughs and colds," said Sneha Verma, an IT employee. With no cold wave forecast for the rest of the month, weather officials say the city is now on a gradual path from winter to early summer conditions.
