Volvo buses, trucks to be manufactured at Vikram Udyogpuri Phase-2 in Ujjain

Indore: VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd (VECV) will establish a new manufacturing plant in Ujjain's Vikram Udyogpuri Phase-2 with an investment of Rs 580 crore to produce Volvo buses and trucks.The company, a joint venture between Volvo Group and Eicher Motors, was allotted 70 acre of land for the unit, which will also manufacture gears, axle assemblies, and transmissions.The VECV plant located at Pithampur in Dhar district was considered a global hub for Volvo engines since 2013, from where exports are also made to several countries. Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation (MPIDC) executive director Rajesh Rathore said, "The investment of a global company like VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd in Vikram Udyogpuri Phase-2 is an important step for the industrial development of Ujjain. This project will create new employment opportunities at the local level and accelerate development of automobile and ancillary industries in the Vikram Udyogpuri area."The Ujjain project is expected to generate direct employment for 1,000 youth, while fostering a secondary ecosystem for small-scale industries and ancillary services like warehousing and maintenance, officials from MPIDC said.This expansion follows the company's 2025 investment of Rs 450 crore in Phase-1, where a factory for Eicher brand vehicles is slated to begin production within the next six months.Vikram Udyogpuri Phase-2 is being developed by MPIDC in Ujjain over an area of approximately 488 hectare, of which 382 hectare of land is reserved for industrial units. Hundreds of industrial plots will be prepared here, which will provide new investment opportunities to companies from across the country and the state.Approximately Rs 455 crore will be spent on the development of this industrial area. Under comprehensive development, roads, electricity, water, drainage, sewage treatment, and modern logistics facilities will be developed so that industries can get better infrastructure.
