Third accused in flat sale fraud arrested
Indore: A woman was arrested in connection with a flat sale fraud in which a complainant was allegedly cheated of Rs 35 lakh. The accused, identified as Sayra, is the third arrest in the case registered at Crime Branch police station.Additional DCP crime branch Rajesh Dandotiya said the case was registered on a complaint filed by Faisal Ahmed, a resident of Indore. Ahmed alleged that three persons, Mohit Mahajan, Nisar Ali and Sayra conspired to dupe him on the pretext of selling a flat. The deal was finalised for Rs 35 lakh and the amount was paid in cash and through online transactions.Investigators said after taking the money, the accused repeatedly assured the complainant that the property would be registered in his name. However, the registry was never executed. Instead, the same flat was registered in the name of Mahajan's sister-in-law for Rs 17 lakh, pointing to a deliberate attempt to defraud multiple buyers through parallel deals.Earlier, the crime branch arrested Mohit Mahajan, a resident of Kanadia and Nisar Ali. With Sayra's arrest on March 31, police are now probing the wider network and examining similar complaints, as the accused have admitted to cheating several others using the same modus operandi.Officials said Sayra, who is educated up to Class 10, assisted her husband in the transactions linked to the fraud.
