Indore: Teary-eyed daughter, hubby perform last rites of Vimukta Sharma
INDORE: With tears flowing down their eyes and supporting each other, Vimukta Sharma’s daughter Devanshi and husband conducted her final rites at Regional Park crematorium on Saturday afternoon.
While there was anger among the people, the spectators could not stop their tears as they saw their teacher’s funeral after she was killed by a student.
After her pyre was lit by Manoj and Devanshi, the family members sat in a hall at the crematorium where representatives from different groups like her students, co-workers, faculty members, political leaders, heads of various colleges, doctors, police officials investigating the case and social workers spoke about her. “The fight is not over. Don't rest anyone. We should not rest until the accused gets capital punishment for committing such a heinous crime,” said one of the participants.
“We got the information that she had suffered a cardiac pulmonary arrest at 3:45 am. She was a brave woman and battled for five days with 90% burns,” said Arvind Tiwari, brother. In the morning, Vimukta Sharma’s body was sent to district hospital for post mortem examination and brought home where family members had prepared for her final rites.
Sharma’s students, coworkers, faculty members and the entire education fraternity had gathered outside her house to pay their final respect to the woman where Devanshi and Manoj led the procession.
Born in a village in Neemuch in 1968, Vimukta was fondly known as ‘Raju’ at her parent’s home. She studied for some time in Mandsaur and went to New Delhi with her father SN Tiwari who worked with an industrial valve manufacturing company. She came to Indore to study BPharma at her uncle’s house and went back to New Delhi for her masters in pharmacy.
She worked in a private company for some time after which she joined Maharaja Ranjit Singh College and later joined BM College of Pharmacy as a principal 16 years ago and has been working there ever since.
