Students to get second chance in MP board exams from May 7
Indore: Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education will conduct a second examination for Class 10 and 12 students under the National Education Policy 2020, offering an opportunity to clear failed subjects and improve scores. The exams will begin from May 7 at designated centres across the state. This is the second consecutive year that the board is replacing the traditional supplementary exam system with a more flexible second attempt format. Unlike supplementary examinations which are largely meant for students who failed (compartment cases),the second examination allows all students, passed or failed, to re-appear and improve their scores or clear subjects within the same academic year. Students can apply through MP Online kiosks selecting failed subjects compulsorily while improvement in passed subjects remains optional. The move comes in the backdrop of a significant number of students not clearing the board exams this year. More than 1.50 lakh regular students failed in Class 12 across Madhya Pradesh, while the figure crossed 2 lakh in Class 10. In Indore district alone, 13,450 students could not clear Class 10, while 8,187 students secured second division.
In Class 12, 10,871 students failed. A considerable number of students also scored low marks in key subjects such as mathematics, science and English, prompting many to consider the second attempt for improvement. The board PRO Bhupesh said, "The second examination provides a timely opportunity for students to avoid losing an academic year. It also allows those who wish to improve their performance in specific subjects to reappear without pressure."The board has stated that marksheets issued after the second examination will carry equal validity as the main examination results, ensuring students face no disadvantage in future academic pursuits.
