RTE admissions: 12,086 apply for 9,029 seats
Indore: Admission process under the Right to Education Act for 2025-26 academic session in Indore district has drawn a moderate response. It received 12,086 applications against 9,029 available seats in private schools. The application window closed on March 28. The response, though higher than available seats, has not seen a proportionate rise in verified claims.Of the total applications, over 10,000 have been verified and will be considered for allotment. The seats are spread across 1,525 private schools in the district. Officials note that narrow margin between verified applicants and total seats could result in vacancies even after the first round, as seen in previous years.Allotment of schools will be conducted through a state-level online lottery on April 2. The process will assign schools randomly to eligible students. Parents of selected candidates will be required to report to the allotted schools by April 15 to complete admission formalities.District project coordinator Sanjay Kumar Mishra said the lottery process will be conducted centrally to maintain transparency and fairness.
He added that a second round will be organised for seats that remain vacant after the initial phase.Last year, despite over 5000 seats being allotted, a significant number remained unfilled as several parents did not complete the admission process. Officials expect a similar trend this year, especially in schools where demand remains limited.
