Patient mix-up at hosp triggers probe Viral video of patient on stretcher sparks hosp probe

Indore: A 1.21minute social media viral video showing two women pulling a patient on a wheeled stretcher across a busy road connecting MY Hospital and Govt Dental College brought authorities of both medical facilities on their toes on Monday.The video, purportedly recorded on Feb 13, was shared online by an Indore resident on Monday. Govt Dental College principal Dr Alka Gupta confirmed the incident, stating that a multi-trauma patient was brought to the dental facility on Feb 13 due to ‘a confusion'. "He was intended for Operation Theater (OT) number 3 at MY Hospital, but the attendants took him to the Dental Hospital's OT number 3 instead (across the road). After the confusion was clarified, the attendants took him back," she explained.
Initially, MY Hospital Superintendent Dr Ashok Yadav denied that the patient or the stretcher belonged to his facility. "We checked the CCTVs, but the patient shown in the video never visited our OPD, casualty or the hospital," he stated, adding that the stretcher did not belong to MY Hospital. He suggested the stretcher might belong to an NGO operating on the campus to assist needy patients.But when apprised of dental college records, Dr Yadav noted that as the patient's identity remains unclear, the administration will further examine OT records and question doctors to clarify the incident. Regarding dental care protocols, Dr Yadav said that MY Hospital maintains its own dental OPD and provides bedside treatment through resident doctors from the dentistry department.
