Opium hidden inside candy wrappers seized
Indore: Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN) seized 455 grams of opium kept inside candy wrappers in a parcel that was being booked for Ontario, Canada, in Mandsaur.
The person booking the package fled from New Abadi post office after the staff questioned him about contents of the package, triggering a narcotics investigation.
The action was carried out on Monday after officials of CBN Mandsaur cell received inputs about a suspicious parcel being booked for Ontario. A CBN team was rushed to the post office but before the narcotics team could reach there, the suspect had abandoned the parcel and fled from the post office. Officials then opened and examined the package in presence of post office authorities.
The team found two boxes of ‘Love Pan’ candy inside the parcel. On opening each wrapper, officers discovered nearly 25 small pouches filled with opium disguised as candies. The total weight of the seized contraband was found to be 455 grams, while the remaining wrappers contained regular candy.
CBN officials said that the narcotic substance was seized under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act.
Postal staff had reportedly become suspicious after the man booking the parcel appeared nervous while answering queries about its contents. CCTV footage from the post office was being examined to identify the suspect.
