Narmada Phase-IV: Indore to get 24x7 water supply

Indore: Indore is set to get 24X7 pressurised water supply once the Narmada Phase-IV project is completed. Chief minister Mohan Yadav on Sunday performed ‘bhoomi pujan' for the drinking water project worth Rs 1,356 crore under AMRUT 2.0 mission.

The project is designed to increase Indore's water supply to 900 MLD (million litres per day) by 2029, catering to an estimated population of 65 lakh. It specifically targets the ‘New Indore' areas, including 29 villages merged into Indore Municipal Corporation limits. Residents of areas like Revati, Arandiya, Palda, Kanadia, and Chhota Bangarda will also receive treated Narmada water at their doorsteps, bridging the gap between rural and urban expansion.

The chief minister said that the project was a symbol of corporation's foresight. "We are preparing for the year 2040 and beyond. This project uses SCADA-based smart monitoring and DMA (district metered area) technology to track water flow in real time, drastically reducing leakages and ensuring every drop is accounted for," he said.

Yadav also inaugurated a Rs 62.72 crore sewage treatment plant (STP) at Sirpur Lake (a Ramsar site) to prevent pollution and conserve the local ecosystem.

He said that the Indore-Ujjain Metropolitan region was set to become country's second-largest metropolitan region with a projected population of 1.5 crore, making such massive water infrastructure essential for industrial and residential growth.

The chief minister also highlighted ‘Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan,' a campaign started on Gudi Padwa to rejuvenate nearly 2.75 lakh water structures across the state.

Project's Four Comprehensive Packages

Package 1 & 2: Includes 1650 MLD intake well, 400 MLD water treatment plant, 39 km gravity pipelines, 2,870-metre-long tunnel

Package 3: Includes 20 new overhead tanks, upgrading of 29 old tanks, laying 685 km of pipelines. To provide 1.26 lakh new connections with smart water meters

Package 4: Includes 20 more new overhead tanks, upgrading of 46 old tanks, 892 km of pipelines to provide 1.21 lakh new connections
