MP: He had visited our home 10 years ago, say kin of man accused of sheltering Vikas Dubey

UJJAIN: Family of Anand Tiwari – the man detained by Ujjain police on suspicion of harbouring UP gangster Vikas Dubey – on Friday claimed that the slain gangster had visited their home 10 years ago and since then they had not been in touch with him.
Tiwari and his sons, Kapil and Atul, were being questioned about movements of Vikas during his visit to Ujjain where he was caught at Mahakal temple on Thursday morning.
Kapil’s wife, Akansha told TOI that Vikas had visited their home with her father-inlaw’s brother, a resident of Panki village in Uttar Pradesh which borders Bikru village where Dubey and his gang had gunned down eight policemen on July 3.
“He had stayed here for nearly 30 minutes before leaving for Mahakal temple. This was 10 years ago. Since then, we have never seen him. He is in no way related to us,” Akansha said.
Tiwari, who is manager at a liquor firm, was dragged out of his house when he was watching television, soon after Vikas was caught on Thursday. His younger son Atul also was taken to police station. His elder brother Kapil had gone to Nagjhiri police station to check on them, when he was also detained, Akansha said.
Ujjain SP Manoj Kumar Singh said, “We have detained Tiwari for questioning. Vikas had claimed to know him during interrogation. We are cross-verifying Tiwari’s statements.”
Vikas was known to have good influence within his community and had contacts at different places. He had used his contacts to visit Ujjain 10 years ago and in the process visited the family staying on the first floor of a house in Nagjhiri area for last 15 years.
