Milk prices up by Rs 3 per litre in Indore from today
Indore: Consumers in the city will have to pay Rs 3 more per litre for milk from Wednesday. Indore Dugdh Vikreta Sangh has announced a price hike, citing higher cattle fodder costs and rising prices of milch animals.Following the revision, milk delivered at doorsteps will cost Rs 63 per litre, while loose milk sold at dairy outlets will be priced at Rs 65 per litre from April 1.The decision was taken during a meeting of milk suppliers held on March 31 where rising input costs and supply-side pressures were discussed. The association president Bharat Mathurawala said that the rise was necessary to sustain the milk supply chain."Fodder prices have increased sharply over the past few months. Cost of purchasing and maintaining cattle has also gone up. As costs have been steadily rising since then, making a revision was inevitable. The revision will ensure that milk producers get a fair price and continue supply without disruption," he said. This is the first hike in over a year. The last price revision was implemented on March 1, 2025, when milk rates were increased by Rs 2 per litre. The association said the move will benefit around 1.5 lakh milk producers in Indore district, as they will receive higher returns based on fat content.
It said that better price realisation at the producer level is crucial to maintaining consistent supply in the city.Currently, daily milk collection in Indore is around 12 to 12.5 lakh litres, while total daily consumption stands at about 12.5 to 13 lakh litres. With demand expected to rise, sales are projected to touch 14 lakh litres in the coming months.
