Indoreans see coldest Feb night in two years, temp likely to rise gradually

Indore: The city witnessed its coldest Feb night in the last two years, with the minimum temperature dropping to 10.6 degrees Celsius, according to Met department on Sunday.The lowest minimum temperature for Feb in 2025 and 2024 stood at 12 degrees Celsius. The dip marked a further fall from 10.9 degrees recorded two days earlier, extending an unusual spell of sharp night chill across the city, though a gradual rise is now expected in the coming days.
The drop in temperature led to biting cold conditions from evening until early morning. Residents reported a sharp chill after sunset and the cold persisted until after sunrise. However, strong sunshine through the day helped balance the conditions. The maximum temperature was recorded at 29.6 degrees Celsius, around one degree above normal, bringing mild warmth during afternoon hours.Met data shows that the minimum temperature was one degree below normal and 0.4 degrees lower than the previous day. Winds blew mainly from the north and north-east, with speeds reaching up to 14 kilometre per hour. The large gap of over 18 degrees between day and night temperature created a noticeable shift in comfort levels within a single day.Met department has attributed the pattern to systems active at higher levels of the atmosphere. A western disturbance currently lies as a trough in middle and upper-level westerlies above 5.8 kilometre height, while the subtropical westerly jet stream continues over north India at about 12.6 kilometre, with high wind speeds. Satellite imagery showed clear conditions over Madhya Pradesh during the past 24 hours.Met official Arun Sharma from Bhopal meteorological centre said no rainfall is expected in the state between Feb 9 and 12. No weather warnings were issued. Minimum temperature is likely to remain steady for the next 24 hours, after which a rise of two to three degrees is expected as the western disturbance moves eastward.
