INDORE: In an alleged case of ragging, a 21-year-old youth was beaten up, branded with cigarette on back and forced to strip at a local college.
Police inaction into his complaint and college management attempt to sweep the matter under the carpet left the student cornered. Fed up with the on-going harassment caused by seniors of his college, resident of Raj Mohalla area, Shivam Singh Pawarn decided to leave the city on Friday.
He was later tracked down and brought to Malharganj police station.
Shivam’s parents realised his plan only after reading a two-page letter that he had left at home explaining about his ordeal. “Shivam had complained about a few college seniors and had narrated his college experience. As he was missing, I feared that he might kill himself. I immediately lodged a complaint with the police who found him at railway station,” said victim’s father, Vinod Singh Panwar.
Compelled by the missing complaint, Chhatripura police launched a search to find the youth before it was too late. Shivam was traced at Indore railway station. Considering the matter serious, police are now investigating the matter to book the culprit behind the gory incident.
Incharge, Chhatripura police station, Manju Yadav said, “The victim has given few names. We will book a case under relevant sections of IPC following investigation into the matter.”
