Indore: Major fire breaks out at trenching ground

INDORE: Major fire broke out at

Devgradiya trenching ground

on Monday causing panic amongst the resident living in the vicinity. More than 10

fire tenders

were trying to control the fire that engulfed almost the entire

dumping area

.

The fire broke out the around 5.30 pm. Flames were seen coming out from near the boundary wall of the trenching ground near by pass road.

“As soon as we saw flames coming out we evacuated our residences and immediately alerted officials of the civic body. However, the firefighters came only after around two hours,” said Nitesh Jain, owner of a warehouse in the area.

People living close to the wall of the trenching said that since the wind was blowing in the opposite direction, no one was hurt in the incident and no loss of property was reported..

“We had raised our concern with the authorities after they started throwing garbage very close to the wall but they did not pay any heed ,” Jain complained.

With the winds blowing at a very high speed the fire spread rapidly inside the premises of the trenching ground. High flames fire could be seen from far away that triggered panic amongst those staying in residential societies a few kilometers away.

“We can feel the smell of the burning garbage, since the wind in flowing in the opposite direction, we are not facing major problems but looking at the magnitude of fire, we fear that if the wing changes its direction, we will be in deep trouble,” said Akhilesh Sharma, a resident of the area.

Around 10 fire tenders were trying to control the fire but the intensity of fire seemed to be increasing. “We have rushed all our tankers to the spot but the winds are creating problems,” said Uttam Yadav, health officer, Indore Municipal Corporation.

All the residents living near the trenching ground were advised to stay alert, all of them were seen spending their night on roads.

Some incidents of fire were also reported at the trenching ground last year.
